# Install Yomates

> Download the app for your computer and open it for the first time. It takes about five minutes.

> [!NOTE]
> **You'll need** a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 13 or later, a Windows PC, or a computer with Debian-based Linux, and a Google account to sign in with (Kakao works too when the app is in Korean).

Download the app from [yomates.ai](https://yomates.ai). The file you get is named `leviosa`; the app it installs is **Yomates**.

::: tabs

@tab Mac

1. On [yomates.ai](https://yomates.ai), click **Download for Mac**.
2. Open the `leviosa-<version>.dmg` file you downloaded.
3. Drag **Yomates** into the **Applications** folder.
4. Open **Yomates** from Applications.

> [!WARNING]
> If macOS says the app can't be opened, the file was probably passed along through a messenger. Download it again from the site. [More help](/docs/troubleshooting#macos-says-the-app-can-t-be-opened)

@tab Windows

1. On [yomates.ai](https://yomates.ai), click **Download for Windows**.
2. Open the `leviosa-<version>-setup.exe` file you downloaded.

## On a phone?

Yomates is a computer app. On a phone, the site shows **Email me the app** instead of the downloads: enter your email address, then open the link we send you on your computer.

## Updates

You install Yomates once. After that it updates itself: it checks for a new version each time it opens and installs it when you quit.
