The best AI agents for a small online business in 2026: ten compared
No single AI agent is best for every small business, because the ten worth a look in October 2026 are built for different situations. If the work has to keep going while your laptop is closed, look at a cloud agent such as Claude Duet, OpenAI's dots or Grok Bot. If you want to use the ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini plan you already pay for and watch the agent work in a browser on your own computer, a desktop app such as Yomates fits. If you can run a server, OpenClaw and Hermes Agent are free and open source. Below are all ten side by side, what each does better than the others, and the questions that decide it.
Leviosa AI makes Yomates and wrote this page. Everything we say about other products comes from each vendor's own pages, read in October 2026 and linked where we use them. We read documentation, terms and store listings. We did not test the products hands-on. Several are in early access and change month to month, so check the vendor's page before you decide.
Six questions that decide it
- Does it have to work while your computer is off? Cloud agents run on the vendor's computers. Desktop and self-hosted agents run only while their machine is on.
- Which AI does it run on? Some use only their maker's model. Others let you bring the plan or API key you already pay for.
- Can you watch its browser and take over? This matters the first time it works in your seller center, and every time a site asks for a code.
- One agent or a team? A single assistant in one thread, or several agents with roles that hand work to each other.
- What does it ask before acting? Look at what it confirms by default before sending, paying, publishing or deleting.
- Can you get it? Several are invite-only, limited to one or two countries, or tied to one company's plan.

Three agents with their own phone number
Cue, Pickle and Instinct are built around calls and their own contact details, so they get a table of their own. All as of October 2026.
| Agent | What it has | Works with your computer off | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cue (Manus) | Each agent has its own email address, phone number, wallet and computer, and makes and takes calls | Yes, after you log off | Early access with an invite code |
| Pickle | Makes calls from a Pickle number. You can watch its cloud browser and take over | Yes, after you close the app | iPhone and Android. A paid plan is needed for the first task |
| Instinct | Its own phone number, email address and computer, on the company's side. You text or call it | Runs on the company's side | Invite only. The terms allow personal use only |

Where each one is stronger
Claude Duet (Anthropic)
As of October 2026, Duet's approval rules are the strictest of the ten, going by Anthropic's safety page. Before Duet sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows the exact action and waits. Some actions, such as moving money between accounts, stay off-limits even with your approval, and a separate automated check runs on every action. According to Anthropic's launch post, it works on a cloud computer, sends a morning brief, checks your connected accounts every few hours and can use the more than 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace.
Anthropic's getting-started page lists the limits. During the research preview you can't watch Duet in its browser or take it over, and it can't see files on your computer. It runs only on Claude Opus 5.5, and its background work counts toward your plan's usage limits. It is open to US accounts on paid Claude plans, by invitation from a waitlist.
Dots (OpenAI)
As of October 2026, each dot has its own cloud computer and browser and keeps working while your devices are off. It does read-only research across your connected apps in the background, runs scheduled tasks and hands bigger jobs to Codex and ChatGPT Work. You can open its computer to see the work and take over.
The cloud browser keeps its own sessions, separate from the browser you're signed in on, and OpenAI's docs say some websites block it. You can connect one of your own computers as a fallback. That is off by default and needs the computer online with the ChatGPT app open.
Grok Bot (xAI)
As of October 2026, Grok Bot is the closest to a team. You create several named Bots with their own jobs, they hand work to each other, and two to six of them can share a group chat. You watch the cloud computer live and take over for passwords and codes. A Bot can learn a browser job from a recording, get its own email address with outgoing mail held as drafts, and make videos from a description or an image.
All your Bots share one cloud computer with its files and logins, and xAI's security FAQ says separate Bots are not a security boundary. Some websites block Bots because they come from shared datacenter IP ranges.
Muse (Meta)
As of October 2026, for a seller who markets on Instagram, Muse for Small Business connects natively to Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts, and it can review ads and draft campaigns. Muse runs in its own cloud computer with a browser you can watch and take over, and keeps working after you close the app.
It is open to people 18 and over in the US and Canada. Its safety page says Meta uses sanitized conversations and tool activity to train its models by default, and you opt out in settings.
Cue (Manus)
As of October 2026, Cue gives each agent its own email address, phone number, wallet and computer. Agents make and take calls, pay within a budget you set, and several can work in one group chat toward a shared goal. It is in early access with an invite code.
Pickle
As of October 2026, Pickle makes phone calls for you from a Pickle number, and you can watch its cloud browser live and take over at any point. Its password and card vault opens only inside an AWS Nitro Enclave whose code is public, and every use of a credential is logged. Of the ten, that is the most detailed account of how secrets are kept that we read. It is one agent per person, and a paid plan is needed before the first task.
Instinct
As of October 2026, you text or call Instinct, and it works from its own phone number, email address and computer on the company's side. It is invite-only, and its terms allow personal use only, so running a business with it falls outside the license.
OpenClaw
As of October 2026, OpenClaw is free, open source under the MIT license, and has no paid edition. It runs any model, including local ones and your ChatGPT or Claude login, reaches you over more than 30 chat apps, and runs around the clock if you put it on a server. You pay for the model and the machine, nothing else.
The machine is the hard part. Its hosting FAQ names the trade-off. A laptop gives you a live browser window but sleeps and disconnects. A server stays on but usually has no screen, so you see screenshots. On gateway hosts, commands run without an approval prompt by default and the sandbox is off. OpenClaw alternatives for online sellers goes through what that means for a store.
Hermes Agent (Nous Research)
As of October 2026, Hermes Agent is the other free, open-source option, and its Bot Mode works like a team. Each named Bot has its own role, model, memory, skills and routines, and they talk in group chats. It connects to more than 20 messaging apps and writes itself skills from experience. Hermes Cloud is a paid option that keeps it on all the time.
Its providers page says it signs in with ChatGPT and Grok subscriptions, takes a Claude subscription only on the higher paid plan with extra usage bought on top, and doesn't support Gemini consumer plans. Its approvals cover dangerous shell commands. The docs describe no approval step for ordinary clicks or form submits.
Yomates (Leviosa AI)
Yomates is built around running an online store. It is a free desktop app with a team of agents that starts with Daniel the manager, Mina the designer and Junho the content creator, and you add any other role in a sentence. Each agent drives a real browser inside the app on your computer. You watch it list products, answer reviews and enter tracking numbers in your seller center, and you can take the keyboard back at any moment. It runs on the ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini plan you already have, or an API key. Before anything is published, submitted or sent, it stops for your OK. Product photos, video and music are made through Yomates and paid in credits.
It is weaker in one big way. The computer has to be on and the app open, so when you close your laptop a cloud agent keeps going and Yomates stops. From your phone you can message the agents on Telegram, and they do the work on the computer. As of October 2026, if you want an agent with its own phone number or email address, Cue, Instinct and Grok Bot offer that. If you want the strictest approval rules, Duet's go further than a confirmation card.
Which one fits your store
- You spend your evenings in seller centers. For screen work in your own accounts, pick an agent whose browser you can watch. That is Yomates on your computer, or a cloud agent you can take over, such as dots, Grok Bot or Muse. Cloud browsers keep their own sessions, and as of October 2026 the dots and Grok Bot docs both say some sites block them. We have no measurements of which seller centers do.
- The work has to happen while you're away from the computer. Pick a cloud agent that is open in your country, or put OpenClaw or Hermes Agent on a server.
- You sell mostly through Instagram and live in the US or Canada. Try Muse for Small Business first.
- You want to own your tools and you're at home in a terminal. OpenClaw or Hermes Agent, with approvals switched on.
- The agent needs its own phone line or inbox. Cue, or Grok Bot for email.
How to try one without risking your store
- Start with a job that only reads, such as a morning order summary or a competitor price check. Nothing changes if it gets it wrong.
- Find the approval settings before the first real job, and leave them on for anything that publishes, sends or pays.
- Check where your logins go. Prefer a vault the agent fills from without reading, over pasting a password into a chat.
- Watch your plan's usage. Background work draws on the same allowance, and as of October 2026 Anthropic says so outright for Duet.
- Give it a week on one job before you hand over the next one.

Questions
What is the best AI agent for a small business in 2026?
It depends on four things: whether the work must continue while your computer is off, which AI plan you want to use, whether you need to watch its browser, and whether it is open in your country. As of October 2026, Claude Duet, dots and Grok Bot keep working with your laptop closed. Yomates runs on the ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini plan you have, in a browser you watch on your computer. OpenClaw and Hermes Agent are free if you can host them.
Which AI agents can use the ChatGPT or Claude plan I already pay for?
As of October 2026, Yomates runs on a ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini plan, or an API key. OpenClaw takes a ChatGPT login through Codex and a Claude login through the Claude CLI. Hermes Agent signs in with ChatGPT and Grok subscriptions, and with a Claude subscription only on the higher paid plan with extra usage. Claude Duet works only with a paid Claude plan in its US preview, and dots only with certain paid ChatGPT plans.
Which AI agents keep working when my computer is off?
As of October 2026, Claude Duet, dots, Grok Bot, Muse, Cue and Pickle run on their makers' cloud computers. OpenClaw and Hermes Agent keep working if you run them on a server that stays on, or on Hermes Cloud. Yomates runs on your own computer, so the computer has to be on.
Is Claude Duet available outside the US?
Not as of October 2026. It is a research preview for US accounts on paid Claude plans, by invitation from a waitlist.
Is Yomates made by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google?
No. Yomates is made by Leviosa AI and has no partnership with OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. It runs on whichever plan or API key you connect.
